Hi, I'm Melanie

I started White Rabbit Skincare in April 2014 after being diagnosed with the skin condition psoriasis, which had flared up during my time at university.
I discovered that there isn't a cure for psoriasis - but you can improve the symptoms and appearance of skin patches through topical treatments.
I  researched into such traditional topical treatments, and was horrified to discover that not only does your skin absorb quite a considerable amount of what you put onto it into your blood stream but the majority of products on the market were full of irritants and synthetic ingredients, which might soothe the symptoms temporarily, but could have long term implications.

So, inspired by apothecary gardens of old,  I set out to create a range of natural, vegan and sustainable skincare products that not only I could trust, but others could too, and help you feel confident in your own skin again, as well as making a big impact, with minimal imprint on our planet.
Our eco products are still carefully crafted and packaged by hand by our skilled, female-led team within our unit in the west of Scotland to ensure the highest quality, and are presented in plastic minimal packaging (94% plastic free, to be precise. We're working on the remaining 6%!)
Being vegan myself, we never include animal-derived ingredients (such as beeswax), nor do we use Parabens, SLS, Silicones, Mineral oils or derivatives of petrochemicals, artificial fragrances, artificial colours, or anything else synthetic -  or confusing!

Natural ingredients, natural products

As we use unrefined/unprocessed, largely organic (and ALWAYS vegan/plant derived) ingredients, no two batches of our products are EVER the same in appearance. You can read more about this here

Occasionally our products - such as moisturisers - may appear as if they have 'split'; this does not effect the efficacy or quality of the product, and can be easily mixed back together.

As we use minimal preservatives, we encourage our customers to think of our products as 'skin food': don't buy and then put away in a cupboard for months at a time!

Packaging

Our packaging is a mixture of aluminium, bamboo (one of the fastest growing and most sustainable natural materials on the planet) and glass. Plastic atomiser and pump lids are available, but you can substitute these for aluminium screw caps if you'd rather.

We also now offer the option to select 'boxed' or 'unboxed' in each product listing, so if you'd rather avoid the outer box that many of the products come in, you can do so.

Moreover, our moisturiser jars (100ml) now come unglued so you can easily separate the aluminium inner from the bamboo outer and either recycle, or use the jars as you wish. We're currently trying to source a suitable aluminium inner jar in order to be able to provide a refill option - watch this space!

Packing Peanuts

biodegradable potato starch packing peanuts

Ours are made from potato starch, and can either be dissolved under running water, or simply popped in your general waste bin, food bin or compost and they will dissolve in a matter of days.

For the rest of our postage packaging, we use cardboard boxes (printed with vegan ink), tissue paper made from recycled materials, and sealed with paper tape.
